1. SKD61 flat bar steel (thickness 10 mm - 315 mm) grade

SKD61 steel is the grade of steel according to JIS standards of Japan. SKD61 plate steel is a hot work tool steel with a good balance of strength, ductility and good heat resistance.

SKD61 steel plate is often used as hot stamping or pressure casting of aluminum, zinc because of its good machinability with little deformation after heat treatment. 

Equivalent steel grade SKD61:

- H13 steel grade manufactured under American AISI standards.

- 2344 steel grade manufactured according to German DIN standards.

- DAC steel grade of HITACHI manufacturer according to Japanese standards.

2. SKD61 steel characteristics

With Isotropic technology, SK61 special steel becomes more durable and isotropic to increase the service life and stability of precision molds.

- Thickness: up to 315 mm;

- Width: up to 560mm;

- Length: up to 5000mm.

Hardness of SKD61 sheet steel after heat treatment: 52 HRC - 55 HRC.

3. SKD61 chemical composition

SKD61 plate steel has the following basic chemical composition:

- Carbon content accounts for about 0.39%;

- Content of silicon accounts for about 1.0%;

- Manganese content accounts for about 0.4%;

- Phosphorus content accounts for about 0.03%;

- Sulfur content accounts for about 0.01%.

- Chromium content accounts for about 5.15%;

- Molybdenum content accounts for about 1.4%;

- Vanadium content accounts for about 0.8%.

4. Application of SKD61 steel

With great heat resistance, SKD61 steel is often used in the following jobs:

- Commonly used in hot stamping machining.

- Aluminum extrusion mold.

- Copper injection mold.

- Alkaline mold.
